Scope and responsibility

This policy applies to the Legal-e public website, member learning platform, legal services, provider portal, and related communications. Legal-e Speaking S.A.R.L., registered in Baabda, Lebanon under Commercial Registration No. 208132, is responsible for the personal data described here. Privacy requests and legal-policy questions may be sent to legal@legal-e.app.

Data we collect

We collect only the information needed to provide access, learning, services, and platform operations.

  • Contact and identity: name, email, phone number, country, preferred language, role, university or professional body, and access-verification information. Early-access applicants may provide a photo of a national ID, student ID, or Bar ID solely to confirm eligibility.
  • Member profile: learning goals, professional stage, preferences, target dates, pseudonym, and account settings.
  • Learning activity: enrollments, progress, answers, scores, notes, annotations, weak areas, review history, feedback, and mastery material.
  • Service requests: client details, source and target languages, urgency, request instructions, uploaded documents, document metrics, messages, status history, delivery files, and ratings.
  • Consultation requests: contact details, requested service, short matter summary, names submitted for conflict screening, preferred appointment times, assigned professional, payment state, and appointment details.
  • Provider information: professional details, languages, specialties, sworn status and expiry, onboarding documents, capacity, assignments, and verified client ratings.
  • Payments and communications: subscription or order, amount, currency, invoice and transaction references, payment method category, payment status, refunds, support requests, and communication preferences. Complete card details are handled by the selected payment provider and are not intended to be stored by Legal-e.
  • Technical information: authentication records, essential cookies, security events, device and request information, and hosting or email delivery logs.

How we use data

We use personal data to create and secure accounts, control access, personalize learning, record progress, schedule reviews, provide educational feedback, process translation and interpretation requests, coordinate consultations, assign qualified providers, communicate status changes, improve product and service quality, investigate failures, prevent misuse, maintain security, and meet legal obligations.

Legal-e may use learning notes and related learning material for internal research and product or educational improvement only after applying a de-identification process designed to remove names of individuals and organizations and other direct identifiers. Research outputs must be aggregated or de-identified and must not be used to publish or disclose an identifiable learner's private notes.

Automated tools may assist with certain educational and operational functions, including document extraction, first-layer translation, learning feedback, question generation, and operational routing. Where professional review or service delivery is required, Legal-e administrators, reviewers, and assigned legal or language professionals retain responsibility for the applicable review and final service delivery.

04

Who receives data

Access is limited according to role and operational need. Depending on the service involved, personal data may be processed by authorized Legal-e staff, assigned translators, interpreters, reviewers, lawyers or legal consultants, and service providers that support hosting, authentication, database storage, payments, email delivery, document processing, security, and controlled automated platform functions.

Assigned professionals receive only the information reasonably necessary to provide the relevant service. Legal-e does not provide identifiable private learning notes to third parties for their independent research, advertising, or commercial use.

Current infrastructure may include Supabase, Netlify, Resend, OpenAI, Google Workspace, and the selected payment provider, depending on the Legal-e feature or service being used. We do not sell personal data. We may disclose information where required by law, to protect users or the platform, or as part of a lawful business reorganization.

Where third-party providers process personal data on our behalf, Legal-e seeks to maintain appropriate contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards.

05

Cookies and local storage

Legal-e uses essential authentication cookies and local browser storage for sessions, security, language, and interface preferences. These are required for the platform to function. Where optional first-party product analytics are enabled, Legal-e asks for permission before recording limited navigation and product-use events associated with a pseudonymous session identifier. Legal-e does not use those events for third-party advertising. You may reject optional analytics without losing access to essential platform functions and may withdraw consent by contacting Legal-e or using an available privacy control.

06

Retention and deletion

Account information, learning activity, answers, progress, feedback, and private notes are normally retained while a subscription or account remains active and for up to two years after the subscription ends or the account is closed. This period supports account history, security investigations, disputes, and legal concerns. Data may be deleted or de-identified earlier where it is no longer needed and no legal or operational reason requires its preservation.

Early-access eligibility images are scheduled for deletion within 90 days of upload unless a documented legal obligation requires a longer period. Optional product analytics are normally retained for 180 days, runtime and client-error reports for 90 days, and processed payment-webhook records for 400 days. Service, consultation, provider, and financial records are retained for the period needed to deliver the service, handle professional or payment disputes, and satisfy legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations. Applicable accounting and tax records may need to be retained for up to ten years.

When information is no longer required, it is deleted or anonymized where reasonably possible, including from active systems through scheduled retention processes. Backup copies may remain until the applicable backup cycle expires. A request to close an account does not require immediate deletion of records that must be preserved by law or for legitimate dispute and security purposes.

07

Security and international processing

Legal-e uses role-based access, private storage, signed file access, authentication controls, and operational monitoring to reduce unauthorized access. No online system can guarantee absolute security. If a personal-data incident creates a notification obligation, Legal-e will notify affected persons and competent authorities as required by applicable law. Infrastructure and service providers may process or store data outside Lebanon. Where personal data is transferred or processed internationally, Legal-e will apply the safeguards required by applicable law and appropriate contractual, technical, or organizational measures.

08

Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, update, or delete personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing depends on consent. You may also ask how a decision affecting your access or service was made.

Send requests to legal@legal-e.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting. Legal-e operates with reference to Lebanon's Law No. 81/2018 on Electronic Transactions and Personal Data and other applicable requirements.

09

Policy updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Legal-e platform, services, data practices, technology, or applicable legal requirements. The revised date will appear at the top of this page.

Where changes are material, we will communicate them to active users through the platform or by email where appropriate. Your continued use of Legal-e after the effective date of an updated policy means that you acknowledge the revised policy, subject to any consent or other requirement imposed by applicable law.
